Questions people ask before they build, reline or hire a cleaner.

Straight answers from the showroom at 875 N Eastern Blvd in Montgomery. Prices are not posted, because every new pool is quoted after a consultation, but everything else about how we work is below.

Installation of the walls and concrete footing, a concrete bottom, liner over the stairs, cantilever coping, a ladder and handrail, an energy-efficient pump, two jets in the steps, an automatic cleaner line, four or more returns, two skimmers and two main drains, your choice of a 20 mil or 27 mil liner, a concrete deck (10 ft on the ends, 6 ft on the sides), maintenance tools, training, balanced chemicals, 10 percent off all chemicals and a one-year warranty on construction.

Standard sizes run 12 x 24, 14 x 28, 16 x 32, 18 x 36 and 20 x 40. Shapes go from rectangles to wavy, T-shapes and L-shapes, and our curved Capital shape.

Anywhere from a few weeks to a few months, depending on the design and the yard. We give you a timeline at your consultation.

Our own construction crews build each phase, from excavation to the safety fence. Electrical work is the one trade we sub out.

Findlay vinyl liners: American-made virgin vinyl, UV-resistant, in light and dark colours and regular and swirl patterns, stocked for rectangular, oval and round pools. They carry 2-year full replacement coverage on manufacturer defects and a 20-year prorated warranty.

We net the top of the water, brush the walls, vacuum the pool, empty the pump and skimmer baskets, backwash the filter, inspect the equipment, blow off the deck, then check and balance the chemicals. Chemicals are an extra charge.

Building: family-owned, with crews that are ours

Mr. Pool is a family-owned business that has been building pools in Alabama for over 15 years. The crews that dig, set the walls and footing, pour the bottom, hang the liner and pour the deck work for us, and electrical is the one trade we hand to someone else. The service department adds more than 50 years of combined experience, and every person on it is trained at our own Mr. Pool school.

When the pool is finished, you go to that same school. One customer wrote about going from the first meeting in the showroom to pool school with Cooper, and that handover is how we send every owner home: training, maintenance tools, and water balanced on day one.

Liners: why the vinyl matters more than the pool around it

The liner is the surface that actually holds your water. A traditional vinyl liner needs replacing every 10 to 15 years, and fading, wrinkles and leaks are the usual signs that yours is done. We replace them with Findlay liners in four steps: prep, correct, develop and finish, which means draining the pool and pulling the old liner, acid-washing the steps and fixing the bottom, fitting the new liner with its skimmer, gasket and return plates, and letting it settle while the pool refills.

Findlay covers manufacturer defects with a 2-year full replacement and a 20-year prorated warranty, and we stock shapes for rectangular, oval and round pools. Start on the Findlay liners page.

Cleaning: what a weekly visit gets you

A weekly plan means the top of the water is netted, the walls are brushed, the pool is vacuumed, the baskets are emptied, the filter is backwashed and the chemicals are checked and balanced, every week, by someone looking at your equipment as they go. A pump or filter that is starting to fail tends to show itself on a visit like that rather than on the day of the party. Chemicals are billed separately, and an Emergency Clean is there for the times the guests are already on their way.
